29th April is the birthday of Emperor Showa. On this day, all shrines serve a ritual to pay respect to him and pray for lasting national prosperity.

He remained on the throne for 64 years. During his reign, Japan experienced the Second World War. Although the country went through a hard time, the post-war prosperity owed not only to efforts which Japanese people made, but also to the emperor’s consideration.
