We served in a joint memorial ceremony for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake, held in Kencho-ji temple on 11th March. Regardless of the difference of belief, the priests of Shinto, Buddhism and Christianity in Kamakura gathered to pray for the victims and an immediate reconstruction of the disaster-stricken area. About 7,000 people also came to pray with the priests, and offered the deceased incense, which is the Buddhist way to pay respect to the dead.
Transcending the boundaries of religions, we shared the sympathy for those who suffered and are still suffering from the disaster. The joint ceremony made “絆” (kizuna), bound, among us all stronger than ever.
