Hatsuuma-sai was conducted at Maruyama Inari Shrine on 4th February.

It is believed that kami of Inari appeared at Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, the most fundamental Inari shrine in Japan, on the first day of the Horse in February in 711. Since then, Hatsuuma-sai, which literally means a ritual on the first day of the Horse, has been held at Inari shrines all over Japan on that day.

At Maruyama Inari shrine, a Shinto priest offered a prayer, and shrine maidens dedicated the sacred dance. Worshippers gathered to commemorate the appearance.
