  4. Mikagura Performance

Mikagura is the Imperial Court dance and music, and it was brought to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu from the Imperial Court in the late 12th century. For more than 800 years, we keep this ancient style of sacred dance and music to play in the Shinto rites.

The Chief of musician "Nincho" declare the beginning of Mikagura, and a bonfire is lit during the performance. The pieces that are sung and chanted can be divided into three groups: to invite the Kami (divine spirits), to please the Kami, and to send the Kami to their original place.
