The 58th Kamakura Festival —Events and Ceremonies—

Kamakura Festival is an annual event organized by the Kamakura City Tourist Association. This year, it is held from 10th to 17th April.
Some events take place in Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, and the schedule is below.

Sun. 10th April, 3pm Shizuka no Mai (Dance of Lady Shizuka)

At the end of the first day of Kamakura Festival, Japanese dance is performed to commemorate the legendary episode of Lady Shizuka (静御前) in Kamakura period. The dancer wears the medieval costume and reproduces the historical scene of Lady Shizuka.

 

 

 

 

 

Sun. 17th April, 1pm Yabusame (Horseback archery)

Yabusame
at the horse track
Yabusame would be a special occasion to see the skill of medieval samurai at shooting arrows on horseback. Archers training at Takeda School show the skillful combination of horsemanship and archery.
