Setsubun-sai (Day before the First of Spring) was held

santou1.JPGA festival to celebrate the coming spring called Setsubun-sai (Day before the First of Spring) took place on 3rd February.

After a ritual at the Main Shrine, two special ceremonies called Meigen (resounding bowstrings) and Mamemaki (scattering beans) were held at the Lower Worship Hall. In the Meigen ceremony, two priests pluck their bow strings in every direction and dispel evil spirits with the plucking sound. In Mamemaki, attendants scattered soybeans to scatter misfortune away and attract good fortune. A large number of people gathered to try to catch the scattered beans for the blessing.
