0826US.JPGMr. William Hagerty, the new U.S. Ambassador to Japan, visited Tsurugaoka Hachimangu with his family on 26th August.

Firstly, the Vice Chief Priest ushered them in the precinct, and in front of the Great Ginkgo, the symbol tree of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, they received an explanation about the sacred ginkgo tree which was toppled in a windstorm in 2010, and the sprout which is growing now.

Then, they attended a Shinto ceremony in the Main Shrine, and Mr. 0826US2.JPGHagerty offered a tamagushi as the representative of attendees.

Finally, they had a conversation about the shrine with the Chief Priest in the guest house while enjoying green tea.
