Lively New Year Season of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu

A traditional custom “Hatsumoude” that greet for the kami and pray for happiness in the new year has started. Because of that, busiest Shinto shrines are crowded with full of visitors.

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu welcomed enormous number of people during those days. They prayed for kami sincerely and received amulets and lucky charms.

During the period, various rituals were conducted such as Chona-hajime-shiki (Start of Carpentry Work) and Joma-shinji (Dispelling Evil with Sacred Arrows), which made the precinct’s atmosphere much livelier.
