Firstly, they are welcomed by Shinto priests at the guest house, and guided to the Peony Garden. They also attended a formal Shinto ceremony in the main shrine. They also had a short question-and-answer session with the director of Shinto Research Institute of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, and deepened their knowledge on Japanese art and spirituality.

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu and Portland Japanese Garden have been cooperating to promote Japanese culture in the US since this shrine first visited Portland to perform sacred dance Mikagura in 2014.
