Prayer for comforting and encouraging victims of Great East Japan Earthquake in Miyagi

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu held a memorial ritual to pray for victims of Great East Japan Earthquake occurred on 11 March 2011 in collaboration with Todaiji temple in Nara at Zuiganji Temple in Miyagi Prefecture on 19 May. In the ritual, priests of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu and monks of Todaiji temple prayed together for soon recovery from distraction and the aftermath of tsunami and accidents at the nuclear power plants in Fukushima. Also, eight shrine maidens dedicated urayasu-no-mai, a Shinto sacred dance praying for peace and quiet in the nation. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu and the worshippers association Enju no Kami have been supporting people affected by the earthquake in Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate, in the northeast Japan.
