The President of Austria, His Excellency Van der Bellen made an official visit.

The President of Austria, His Excellency Alexander Van der Bellen, Ambassador of Austria to Japan, His Excellency Dr. Hubert Heiss and the delegation visited Tsurugaoka Hachimangu on 20th October.

Firstly, they attended a Shinto ritual in the Main Shrine, and the President and his wife respectively offered a tamagushi, an offering to the kami, as the representative of attendees.

Next, a Shinto priest guided them around the shrine precinct, explaining about the history and facilities of the shrine. They enjoyed seeing the magnificent and exquisite architecture including the Lower Worship Hall.

Then, the delegation was escorted to the guest house, and the Japanese green tea and sweet were served. They had a conversation with Chief priest about Kamakura, once considered to be the “Mecca of Samurai worriors”.

Finally, they went to the Kamakura Bunkakan Tsurugaoka Museum to see the sasonal exhibtion. They deepened some more of the history of Kamakura and this shrine.
