Mikagura was dedicated

Mikagura, Sacred Court Dance and Music Ritual, was dedicated on 16th December.

Abuot 40 people, including America, Australia, Canada embassy officials and international students attended and experienced this historical ritual.

It was 800 years ago that this kagura was brought to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu from the Imperial Court. Yoritomo invited the Imperial Court musicians to dedicate the kagura of the Imperial Court to the kami when the new shrine was completed in 1191. Now a bonfire is lit during the performance, and mikagura is dedicated in a solemn atmosphere.

Attendees listened attentively to gagaku music and saw the Miyabito-no-mai dance by shrine madens and nincho-no-mai by Shinto priest interestingly.
