Prayer for comforting and encouraging victims of Great East Japan Earthquake

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu held a memorial ritual in collaboration with Todaiji temple on 29th September to pray for victims of Great East Japan Earthquake occurred on 11th March 2011. Originally, the ritual was planned to be held at Todaiji temple together. However, due to the COVID-19, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu and Todaiji temple conducted the ritual respectively at Kamakura city and Nara city by relay, and the ritual was webcast by niconico.

In the ritual, priests of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu and monks of Todaiji temple prayed together for soon recovery from destruction, the aftermath of tsunami, and accidents at the nuclear power plants in Fukushima Prefecture. Also, eight shrine maidens dedicated urayasu-no-mai, a Shinto sacred dance praying for peace and quiet in the nation.

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu and the worshippers association Enju no Kai will keep continuing to support people affected by the earthquake in the northeast Japan.
